The changing landscape of research funding – the importance of Recognition & Rewards
The funding landscape for research is changing rapidly and poses increasing challenges for young aspiring researchers to establish their own research careers. Classical metrics are no longer considered key. Recognition & Rewards is an international movement that intends to ‘modernize’ the way scientific talent and scientific achievement is recognized and rewarded. This interactive workshop will introduce key elements of Recognition & Research using the Dutch funding structure as an example.
Open to all registered attendees, runs 4:15 to 5:00 pm

Workshop Summary
This workshop aims to explore the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in the field of omics, highlighting how these technologies can unlock the potential of vast and complex datasets. Attendees will gain insights into current trends, practical applications, and future directions in AI-driven omics research. The session will cover a range of topics, including multi-omics data integration, image analysis, and the use of AI in specific research areas. Experts will share their knowledge, case studies, and practical tools to empower participants in their own research and collaborations.
Audience
This workshop is designed for researchers and professionals who have extensive datasets but lack the expertise in AI tools to analyze them. It is ideal for those who will be collaborating with AI specialists to maximize the potential of their data.
Post Workshop Shared Resources
Participants will receive a comprehensive list of additional educational materials to further enhance their understanding and skills in AI and omics. This includes:
Online Courses and YouTube Channels: Curated recommendations of online courses and lectures from notable educators focusing on AI, ML, and bioinformatics.
Research Papers: A collection of significant research papers and case studies discussed during the workshop, providing deeper insights into specific applications of AI in omics.
Toolkits and Resources: Access to a list of recommended toolkits and practical resources to help implement AI techniques in their own research. These resources aim to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary for further self-education and practical application of AI in their research projects.

October 15 Early Career Seminar
Details:
Tuesday, October 15 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Open to all registered attendees
Audience:
Junior and mid-career researchers, particularly those that intend to or have recently set up their own research line.
Summary:
The funding landscape for research is changing rapidly and poses increasing challenges on young aspiring researchers to establish their own research careers. This change has also led to questions being asked on how researchers are judged for their scientific achievements. Classical metrics, such as impact factors, citation scores, etc are no longer considered key in recognizing scientific talent. Recognition & Rewards is an international movement that intend to ‘modernize’ the way scientific talent and scientific achievement is recognized and rewarded. There is increasingly emphasis on aspects related to team science, empowering young researchers, open science and (societal) impact of research. This interactive workshop will introduce key elements of Recognition & Research and using the Dutch funding structure as example will illustrate how it is being implemented.
